Past-over

Well, for the first time since moving back east, I was able to attend a Passover Seder with my family.

It went like this:

The Haggadahs (or "books you read from for hours on end before you get to eat") proudly sported the "Maxwell House Coffee" brand Logo. Apparently, even Passover has corporate sponsorship. WTF?

My uncle, who performed the arduous task of The Leader, stared out with "Let's read over what's on the seder plate for the folks who don't know" (pretty much most of us, at this point)

Then, my sister and my cousin Jared stumbled through the four questions in Hebrew, before all of us were asked to join in. The newbies did not join, and neither did I, since the melody was only partially familiar...from a time long ago. The whole while, my cousins were talking and laughing through the whole thing, which made the rest of us laugh.

Then, we each read a section in English (which took awhile, as there were 15 people present) and that was it! We didn't even skip to the end! I'd say it was a 15 minute seder, at best.

We only did the drops of wine...we did no dipping, nor reclining--we didn't do any of the things that I remember from years ago.

But man, it was funny.

And, I have never seen so many Kosher for Passover desserts. I mean really. A sampling include: chocolate covered macaroons, chocolate covered marshmallows of varying flavors and types, Passover cookies, Passover brownies, Passover pecan bars, Chocolate covered strawberries, fruit salad, Passover birthday cake (for the uncle), and marble loaf.

It was great to see everyone...that was the best part.

But it isn't like I feel more Jewish after this weekend....
